I sat down with Jeff Zueger from Spectrum Films, Inc. who is the man behind the popular show The White Wall Sessions to find out more about the show as we head into season two starting this weekend.

Zueger said they had the equipment and the space and were sitting around one night having a couple of beers and having one of those 'what if' discussions. You know the kind. What if we invited some musicians in and filmed them against just a blank backdrop so their music is THE focus of what we're doing? I wonder if anybody would want to do it? Who would watch it?

With a little prodding from show host Steve Zastrow, who also is a local musician and was also the first subject, they were off and running. They looked at the video they shot that night and listened to the audio and started inviting a few other local musicians in to their studios to record, then they would post the videos on their You Tube channel and on their The White Wall Sessions website and Facebook page. It didn't take long for fans like myself to take notice. KELO-TV also took notice and in September 2013, The White Wall Sessions premiered on TV on Saturday nights after the 10:00 news.

A couple of months later, Zueger and I along with Zastrow and other production wizards behind the WWS ironically grabbed a couple of beers and talked about bringing the show to radio on B102.7. I wanted to do a full hour show as opposed to the half hour TV show. I thought we could have a couple, three songs from each artist and be able to use some of the interview portion that they do with each band.

You've responded by listening, telling your friends about it and suggesting bands to be on the show. From the 'humble' beginnings, the WWS have now moved into a larger, permanent studio area on Cliff Avenue and have already shot over 30 performers for season 2 which premieres this weekend.

The show has also picked up some affiliates in North Dakota and hope to expand into Iowa and Minnesota as well. With so many performers coming from all over the region, and many national bands stopping in as well (Chris Duarte, Hadden Sayers Band and Sena Ehrhardt Band just to name a few) the show continues to grow and to attract new listeners and viewers.

In addition to artists at their studios, they also recorded the final Snakebeard Jackson show at the District which they turned into a one hour special; and they recorded the main stage performers at the 2nd annual Downtown Riverfest in Sioux Falls in August which we'll hear sometime this winter!

If you haven't heard or watched the White Wall Sessions yet, this weekend is a perfect time to jump in with the new season on TV Saturday nights at 10:30pm and on B102.7 every Sunday night at 7pm!
