After 167 years of using all caps in their weather alerts, the National Weather Service will start using upper and lower case letters. The "screaming" will come to an end in May. Starting May 11, 2016, lower and upper case letters will be used except in the case of dire emergencies, then the all-caps will make an appearance again.

The National Weather Service began using all caps in 1849 because of the telegraph. An attempt was made to switch to upper and lower case 20 years ago, but dated equipment wouldn't allow it.

Let's just hope they don't change those sexy weather alert robot voices.
