‘The Killing’ Season 3: What Stars Won’t Return?
A few weeks ago we were surprised to learn that AMC would indeed return Veena Sud’s murder-mystery drama ‘The Killing‘ for a third season, having previously passed on the opportunity. Now, with Netflix splitting the costs and a likely summer airdate, all eyes are on ‘The Killing’s cast to see who from the first two seasons will return. Holder and Linden themselves, Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos are expected, but can the same be said of Billy Campbell, Michelle Forbes and Brent Sexton? Answers inside!
‘The Killing’ might have been saved from cancellation, but don’t expect all of the cast to be resurrected with it. Series leads Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman are expected to return under contract despite respective film careers, but Variety reports that Billy Campbell will in fact not return for the third season, despite acting as a regular during ‘The Killing’s first two years.
Campbell previously played mayoral candidate (and eventually Mayor) Darren Richmond, who became paralyzed after the first season saw him accused of Rosie Larsen’s murder, and gunned down. No reason was given for the actor’s departure, but Campbell will soon feature as Abraham Lincoln in upcoming Nat Geo biopic ‘Killing Lincoln,’ moving on with his career.
Additionally, Variety confirms that ‘The Killing’ season 3 will also leave behind actors Brent Sexton and Michelle Forbes, who played Rosie Larsen’s parents Stan and Mitch Larsen, respectively. Given ‘The Killing’s second season finally resolved the Rosie Larsen murder, the characters would have no further purpose in a third season, currently being developed by show-runner Veena Sud and executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin.
Well, what say you? Are you excited for a third season of ‘The Killing,’ even if a few cast members get left behind? What new mysteries might detectives Linden and Holder get wrapped up in this time?
