Heavy metal overlords Black Sabbath began the second chapter of their storied career in April 1980, when they hit the road in Europe and U.K. for their first shows with Ozzy Osbourne’s replacement, Ronnie James Dio.
He was a metal god. Ronnie James Dio had one of the great rock voices of all-time before succumbing to stomach cancer in 2010. We've dug up one of his earliest recordings and you WON'T believe what he sounded like before finding his true calling
Earlier this month over 80 guitars from rockers like Eddie Van Halen and Slash were auctioned off to raise money for cancer reseach. The Dio Cancer Fund -- a charity that honors the late Ronnie James Dio -- added $100K to an already impressive total to give to the TJ Martell Foundation. Since 2010 wife Wendy Dio has overseen the donation of over $300K.
Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell guitarist Tony Iommi -- a recent cancer survivor -- is among the honorees at the second annual Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund Awards Gala on Halloween night (10/31) at the Avalon nightclub in Hollywood.
