Classic rockers will continue to be featured on American stamps. Today (Feb. 21), it was learned that we can expect to see names such as John Lennon and Janis Joplin adorning letters over the next few years.
Though they may have been far from technically sound, Big Brother and the Holding Company were, in fact, the perfect band for a young Janis Joplin to have on her side. Nevertheless, her departure from the group in December of 1968 seemed inevitable right from the start.
"Four gentlemen and one great, great broad ... Big Brother & the Holding Company." Bill Graham utters these words at the very start of the San Francisco band's classic 'Cheap Thrills' album, introducing the band -- not just Janis Joplin and a bunch of guys who wandered onstage to back her up.
