Ice Storm

Interstate 90 is open from Sioux Falls to Mitchell. However west of Mitchell the road is closed to Chamberlain. Chamberlain to Rapid City is currently open but could change due to weather conditions.

An early spring ice storm moved through South Dakota on Tuesday, leaving damaged trees and downed power lines around Sioux Falls. As many as 10,000 residents were left without power.

April Ice Snow Storm

Winter storm is impacting South Dakota Tuesday (April 9) A lot of our friends are posting pictures on Facebook to share with the world.

Over 10,000 residents are without power due to a combination of wind and ice on power lines.

Gaylynn Huber of Sioux Falls Streets says police are reporting there are about 25 locations in the city where there are tree branches  or entire trees lying across the street.  Huber tells KSOO Radio:  "Right now the vegetation has about a quarter inch of ice on it...

Meteorologist Mike Fuhs of the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says the current winter storm might possibly be the most significant storm (winter storm system) that will affect much of the state that we have had all winter or spring in this case...

An early spring snowstorm is in store for parts of the Dakotas early this week.

State officials are cautioning travelers that freezing rain, ice and snow in parts of South Dakota from Friday night through early Sunday morning could create difficult travel conditions.
