The Sioux Falls Stampede claimed the USHL Western Conference title and home ice advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs with a 4-3 win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Justin Williams and Jeff Carter scored 98 seconds apart on the first two shots of the game, Williams added a goal on Los Angeles' first shot of the second period, and the Kings beat the Minnesota Wild 3-0 on Thursday night behind Jonathan Bernier's first shutout of the season.
The Lincoln Stars set the tone with two first period goals, and went on to defeat the Sioux Falls Stampede 4-1 Saturday night at the Arena. The Herd finished a weekend winless at home for just the second time this season.
Mikko Koivu scored the winning shootout goal and had two assists in regulation. Matt Cullen and Charlie Coyle also had goals, and Niklas Backstrom stopped 28 shots for Minnesota in the Wild's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles kings Saturday night.
