Study: You Can Be Allergic to Cold Temperatures

Not too many people enjoy cold days like the ones we've been having lately, but for some the frigid weather can be deadly because they are allergic to the cold.

It's a very rare condition called "cold urticaria" only affects about one in 100-thousand people. According to the Mayo Clinic:

People with cold urticaria can experience redness, itching, swelling and hives on the skin after coming in contact with cold temperature.

 

The allergy can be as severe as a peanut allergy- - sufferers can slip into life-threatening anaphylactic shock if too much of their body is exposed to cold temperatures.

That sounds like pretty serious stuff, even though an allergy to the cold sounds like a joke.
