(NPN) — Sioux Falls and its bedroom communities lead South Dakota cities in growth percentage from 2011-12, according to a new study by the Black Hills Knowledge Network.
Based on new U.S. Census data, the group looked at the state’s 27 largest communities of 2,500 residents or more.
Leading in growth percentage were the Sioux Falls metro communities of Tea (6.9 percent), Hartford (5.5 percent), Harrisburg (4.2 percent) and Canton (2.3 percent). The only non-Sioux Falls area community to break the top five was Box Elder (3.3 percent).
The next five communities in growth percentage were Brandon (2.2 percent), Sioux Falls (2.1 percent), Rapid City (1.7 percent) and Aberdeen, Brookings and Madison (1.6 percent).
Mitchell had the 15th highest grow rate at 0.9 percent, tied with Dell Rapids, another Sioux Falls metro community.
The following communities had no growth or showed losses in population during the period: Hot Springs (0.0 percent), Lead (-0.5 percent), Belle Fourche (-0.7 percent), Mobridge (-1.9 percent) and Winner (-2.2 percent).
