The Stone Temple Pilots issued a brief statement this afternoon (Wednesday) announcing that they have "officially terminated Scott Weiland", though they didn't say why.

Weiland has had a rocky past both with STP and Velvet Revolver. Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash recently said that he'd never work with Weiland again. Weiland recently told Rolling Stone magazine that the band had been going through a rough patch, but he felt that recording new music instead of continuing to play the same greatest hits every night would go a long way towards fixing that.

Weiland said, "I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots today by reading about it in the press."

He added, "Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted, and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out."

Game on.
