Once again, tragedy has struck at Christmastime.

Three children die in a house fire in Sioux Falls' North End, when their home of just a few weeks catches fire.

As fire investigators try to determine the cause, parents grieve the loss of their children in an almost-unspeakable tragedy.

There's no connection, but the fatal fire came eight days after the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, where a young man armed himself to the teeth, shot his mother and then got into a school building where he focused on small children before finally turning one of his guns on himself.

What can we do? Plenty.

It may sound simplistic, and it may be, but give to a charity that helps victims of tragedy. Find a way to feed the hungry, clothe the unclothed, comfort the grieving. Use your prayers. Use your hands. Use your resources.

We can't make tragedy go away, but we can help in the aftermath.

Christmas brings hope to a world in need, and each of us can do the same, even if it's one person at a time.
