State Representative Paula Hawks from Hartford announced Monday that she is running for congress. She will challenge US Representative Kristi Nome for South Dakota's loan seat in the House of Representatives in 2016.

Hawks has represented Minnehaha County's District 9 in the South Dakota legislature since 2013.

In her press release Monday Hawks said, “I’m running for United States House of Representatives because I believe South Dakota needs a Representative who will work hard to represent the interests of everyday citizens. I believe South Dakotans deserve someone who listens and works hard for them each and every day in Washington.”

Hawks' campaign also posted this announcement video Monday.
