SIOUX FALLS - Whether you like to rough it or leisure in luxury you’ll see whatever you’re looking for at this weekend’s Sioux Empire Sportsman’s Show. With more than 200 exhibitors from all over the Midwest, boaters, anglers, campers, hunters and RVers can see the newest gear for spending time in the great outdoors.

The Sioux Empire Sportsman’s Show starts Thursday at 5 pm and runs through Sunday at the Sioux Falls Arena and Convention Center.  This show isn’t all about the hardware, you can also decide where you want to spend your summer vacation, at a lodge or closer to home at a South Dakota park.

If you’re looking for the best camping and rec places you’ll want to stop by the South Dakota State Park booth.

”We give out information and have face time with the public. We get to hear what they’re thinking about our state parks,” said Emilie Miller, Marketing Specialist for the SD State Park system.

South Dakota has 12 state parks, 43 recreation areas and five nature areas. If you’re a camper, now is the time to reserve one of the nearly 4,200 camping spots in the state for a May 2013 camp date.

“Most of the questions we receive are about camping, when can I make a reservation,” said Miller.  Campers can reserve a spot 90 days in advance. Right now they’re taking reservations for May. It can be a competitive process to get that perfect spot.

South Dakota Wildlife Division will focus on hunters at the show. They’re bringing a laser shooting simulator which attracts a lot of people to their exhibit.

Each day of the Sportsmen’s show features seminars and workshops from outdoor pros.  If you’re in the market for a new boat or camper you’ll have many to tour on the floor.

If you’re bringing your kids be prepared to drag them away from the fishing pond and they won’t want to miss Twiggy the water skiing squirrel.

The cost of the show is $7 for adults and teens, $2.50 for kids 6-12 years old. Under five get in for free.
