SPEARFISH - The Spearfish city council has delayed a decision on how it wants to manage temporary business signs.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports that council members say they would like to see a proposal that addresses how to mount banners, the maximum amount of signage and what sizes are appropriate.

The ordinance initially came before the city council in January, when members said they wanted to find a balance between business owners' needs and a desire to enhance the visual landscape.

Public hearings have been put off as a taskforce continues its work on suggestions for a proposed ordinance.

Spearfish City Planner Jayna Watson says with the struggling economy the past few years, businesses want to use any additional advertising they can to boost their bottom lines.
