It's game week in Vermillion as year two of the Joe Glenn era kicks off Saturday afternoon with a non-conference game against UC Davis of the Big Sky Conference.

This is a Coyote team that won just one time in 2012, but they've already scored their first victory of 2013, beating the heat with indoor practices at the DakotaDome.

Even though Glenn has more than 40 years of coaching experience under his belt, including more than 20 as a college head coach, he still gets excited when that first game week of the season rolls around, this time against a relatively unknown UC Davis team.

The Aggies return their quarterback, top running back, and top wide receiver from last year's 4-7 team.  Their only pre-season All-Big Sky Conference player is fullback Daulton Turay.

UC Davis has new head coach with Ron Gould taking over after coaching the running backs at Cal for years.  During his time in Berekley, Gould mentored the likes of Marshawn Lynch (Seattle Seahawks), Jahvid Best (Detroit Lions), Shane Vereen (New England Patriots), Justin Forsett (Houston Texans) and Will Ta'ufo'ou (Jacksonville Jaguars).

Offensively for USD, a key injury at running back is putting some new faces behind quarterback Josh VanderMaten.

One area where coach Glenn is looking for immediate improvement in 2013 is in the mental aspect of the game.  Something the Coyotes struggled with last season.

Even though his team won just once last season, coach Glenn knows that opening the season at home gives USD a big boost.

Kickoff at the DakotaDome is 2:00pm Saturday.
