South Dakota State Announces Plans for New Football Stadium

A pair of big Hobo Day donations will help South Dakota State's dream of building a new football stadium become a reality.

At a press conference in Brookings, T. Denny Sanford and Dana Dykhouse, a former Jackrabbits player, announced a combined $12.5 million gift to begin the process of building SDSU's first new football facility in more than 50 years. Sanford will give $10 million, Dykhouse $2.5 milion.

The new stadium will be call the Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

At the press conference, Dykstra said:

T. Denny walked into my office and asked: 'Do you have any projects you want done?

And i said, yes I do!

Dykhouse Stadium will seat 18,000, and will cost $60 million to $65 million.

Next stop for the pans is the Board of Regents, who, along with the State Legislature, must approve the project.

Construction could start as early as next spring and the stadium could be ready for the 2016 season.
