Retiring South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson is not happy that Confederate Flags are being displayed in South Dakota.

According to the Associated Press, South Dakota's senior senator is disappointed with the decision.

U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says he thinks Confederate flags should be removed from a Veterans Affairs hospital in the South Dakota city of Hot Springs.

The flags are in an 8-flag historical display. They were removed for a few days when some veterans getting treatment at the hospital complained, but they were put back on display this week. Johnson tells the Rapid City Journal that he's disappointed.

While Confederate Flag controversies are nothing new in the southern state's, this is relatively new ground in South Dakota. 'Historical significance' is being cited as the reason for the display.

VA Black Hills Health System Director Steve DiStasio says the flags were put back on display because of their historical significance. Some veterans say they agree with the move. Others say the flags symbolize racism.
