Here in South Dakota we've enjoyed relatively low unemployment.  And now that the U.S. Government has shutdown we still look pretty good compared to the national numbers.

Yes, the furlough has closed many of our prime tourist attractions in the Black Hills.  It has of course affected Ellsworth Air Force Base and the South Dakota National Guard.  But according to Advantage South Dakota we are strong in jobs.

Almost 3,000 available jobs were showcased across Eastern South Dakota, and the James River Valley region of South Dakota, this week in the “Advantage South Dakota Jobs Showcase”.

Employers from various industries, representing alternative energy, value-added agriculture, financial services, manufacturing, transportation, telecommunications, information technology, health care, education, construction and more were on hand to share their stories of job creation in the growing area and the corporate culture of their organizations.

Company executives and local leaders highlighted the quality of life in their communities and the abundant outdoor amenities throughout the Jobs Showcase.   Construction of new investments in business and housing was also evident throughout the entire area.

Spreading the word of this remarkable growth and great job opportunities was recommended during the upcoming Pheasant Season, Thanksgiving and upcoming winter holidays.  South Dakota’s outdoor amenities like lakes, rivers, trails, hunting, fishing, and abundant other outdoor sports, are only a few minutes away from nearly every one of the workplaces growing their businesses.

Advantage South Dakota is a regional economic development initiative of NorthWestern Energy, together with the communities it serves in Eastern South Dakota.  For additional information about the Advantage South Dakota area job opportunities, check out www.sdjobs.org.   For additional information about Advantage South Dakota, check out www.advantagesouthdakota.com.
