South Dakota Has The 2nd Most Corrupt State Government in The Country According To Report

The website TheRichest.com states that a nationwide poll was conducted to rate U.S. state governments in 14 categories revolving around honesty, competency and genuine hard work.

The site goes on to say that the states that ranked in the top 10 (or worst 10 depending on how you want to look at it) had failures in many of the same categories: redistricting, political financing, public access to information, ethics enforcement agencies, and lobbying disclosure.

For South Dakota, the website says "while it has one of the lowest population densities in the whole of the United States, South Dakota has an extremely corrupt government. According to Denise Ross' State Integrity Investigation report, the state does not have an ethics commission, comprehensive state ethics laws, and satisfactory transparency laws. It also does not put effort into requiring public officials, other than its judges, to disclose information about their assets and income. In addition to this, the state law also has a loophole that allows individuals to make unlimited donations to political campaigns. Fortunately, there have been major improvements in the integrity of the state, in the form of online state records."
