Construction season is underway in Sioux Falls for the summer and the first big project starts Monday April 6, 2015, when Cliff Avenue will be closed from 69th Street to 85th Street.

If you live in the area, it may be a bit of a hassle, but when it's done in November, 69th and Cliff will be among the biggest intersections in the city. Traffic is expected to ramp up each year, tripling in the next 20 years.

"This is one of the hottest areas in town when you look at growth and what's coming. We are adding new traffic signals, we're adding new street lights, we're adding turn lanes at the intersection, we're adding lanes of traffic on Cliff Ave. and on 69th Street." said Chad Huwe, City Engineer.

As reported from our news gathering partner KDLT News, nearby businesses will still be accessible through temporary roads.

The improvements will have a big payoff in the future. "This is going to set us up for decades to come," said Huwe.

Detour Options

Alternate routes include Minnesota Avenue to the west and Highway 106 to the south. 69th Street will remain open during the construction.
