Gene Simmons' daughter Sophie is getting on with her music career — but Kiss fans shouldn't expect the results to sound like her dad's work.

The younger Simmons, whose artistic aspirations received their first widespread attention during her 2012 X Factor audition run, recently told TMZ she's working on an EP of new music while also writing songs for other artists, at least one of whom appears to be a household name.

"I’m writing songs for everyone, which is great," Simmons told the tabloid. "I’m working on my own EP but I’ve been writing songs for people lately. I just wrote a track for Rick Ross, which is hysterical."

As Kiss fans are already aware, Sophie's dad isn't exactly a huge fan of hip-hop. In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, he admitted he's eagerly anticipating the "death of rap."

"I’m looking forward to music coming back to lyrics and melody, instead of just talking," Simmons said. " A song, as far as I’m concerned, is by definition lyric and melody … or just melody. Rap will die. Next year, 10 years from now, at some point, and then something else will come along. And all that is good and healthy."

Trends come and go (and Gene has also decreed the death of rock), but as far as Sophie Simmons is concerned, her father's point of view comes from ignorance. "He doesn’t get it, because he’s never understood hip-hop or rap," she retorted. "But I grew up with it. That’s all I listened to."

Simmons' debut release, a cover of the Sixpence None the Richer hit "Kiss Me," arrived last year.
