Very little of what we see in college football today reminds us of what the game looked like in the 1970's.

But for a few moments during Monday night's Liberty Bowl match-up between Texas A&M and West Virginia in Memphis, it was 1978 all over again.

At least twice during the first half, Aggies student-assistant Michael Richardson threw cheap shots toward Mountaineer players.

First he threw an elbow at WVU running back Andrew Buie after he was pushed out of bounds.

Then, later in the half, he threw a punch at cornerback Daryl Worley.

Those incidents were brought to the attention of A&M head coach Kevin Sumiln, who ordered Richardson to stay in the locker room for the second half.

It's likely Richardson's days with the Aggies are done.

The incident stirred memories of the end of another coaching career, as the Woody Hayes era at Ohio State came to an end the day after Woody famously socked Clemson linebacker Charlie Bauman during the 1978 Gator Bowl.

Ahhh memories...
