A musical genius died Thursday morning, April 21, 2016. Prince Rogers Nelson, aka Prince, passed away at his Chanhassen, MN recording headquarters, Paisley Park Studios, at the age of 57.

Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park Thursday morning. An emergency call was placed at 9:32 AM. He did not respond to CPR and was pronounced dead at 10:07 AM.

Prince had been battling the flu for several weeks, postponing two performances from his Piano & A Microphone Tour on April 7, 2016. His private jet made an emergency landing at 1:00 AM on April 15, 2016 in Moline, Illinois, so that he could seek medical treatment. He was only 48 minutes from his home. According to TMZ.com, he was treated for a drug overdose. He was administered a "save shot" that typically counteracts the effects of an opiate. Authorities in Minnesota are trying to get the hospital records from Moline to help determine the cause of death.

TMZ is also reporting that Prince stopped at a local Walgreens just hours before he died. He had been to the pharmacy 4 times that week, the last time was 7:00 PM Wednesday night.

On April 16, 2016 Prince was seen shopping at the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis on Record Store Day, and made a brief appearance at a dance party at his Paisley Park complex. Prince didn't sing during his appearance but showed off his new purple piano, playing chopsticks, and also showing the crowd a new purple guitar. He told the crowd to "Wait a few days before you waste any prayers."

Prince was married twice. He married his backup dancer Mayte Garcia on Valentine's Day 1996. They had one child named Boy Gregory born October 16, 1996. He was born with Pfeiffer syndrome and died a week later. Prince and Mayte divorced in 1999. In 2001, Prince married Manuela Testolini. They divorced in 2006.

Prince's mother and father have both passed away. He has one full-blooded sister, Tyka Nelson who lives in Minneapolis, five half-brothers and two half-sisters.

Prince will be remembered as an eccentric musical genius. We should also remember him as a an actor. He made his acting debut in the iconic movie Purple Rain. Prince was a huge fan of the Fox TV show New Girl  and made an appearance on the show in 2014. Check it out here. He comes in at around 11 minutes, but the whole episode is based around Prince with several funny moments and when you have time, you should watch the whole thing.

Prince's final talk show appearance was in 2014 on The Aresenio Hall Show.

Another appearance on the Aresenio Hall Show.

I can't think of one Prince song that I haven't liked. Some of my favorites are "Seven," "Cream," "The Most Beautiful Girl," the entire Purple Rain soundtrack (especially "Take Me With U") - the list goes on and on. I even liked the new stuff he's recently released. I remember wearing out my Purple Rain cassette. I know every word to every song on that album.

No one will ever forget his Super Bowl appearance. I am just crushed that I will never get to see this icon live.

It looks like the NFL is blocking the video on our site, but you can watch it on YouTube. Just click the link.
