A slow start was not enough the hold back the Sioux Falls Skyforce in a Sunday night 97-88 win over the Salt Lake City Stars at the Sanford Pentagon.

Neither team could find the range early as the first score came over three minutes into the game. Sioux Falls (9-3) shot only 35 percent for the game but scored 21 second chance points from their offensive rebounds. Salt Lake City (2-10) was held to 40 percent shooting and outscored the hosts by 10 in the paint.

Head Coach Nevada Smith is still looking for a full game effort from his squad this season but can accept how the team recovered.

“The first quarter we came out flat. We were generating decent looks, but it was slower than we wanted to play. When we pushed it we got some things that we really liked. The second through fourth quarters we played pretty well. We played good defense the whole time so that was huge.”

Malik Beasley who was assigned by Denver Nuggets to Sioux Falls wanted to focus on the team’s outcome than getting himself going.

“The main thing was to make sure we won the game no matter if I’m scoring or if different players are scoring. My shot wasn’t falling tonight, but they’ll fall the next game.”

The Stars had two NBA assignees who led them in scoring as Joel Bolomboy scored 23 points with 12 rebounds and DeAndre Bembry added 19 points. For the Skyforce, Marcus Posley had 23 points and Okaro White finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Beasley added 15 counters.

Both teams will be back on the court this Friday. Salt Lake City will host Rio Grande Valley and Sioux Falls is home against Austin.
