A man wanted on attempted murder charges led multiple police agencies on a wild chase in northern and eastern Sioux Falls Wednesday afternoon.

Captain Mike Walsh of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department says 29-year-old Zachariah Ryan of Sisseton was wanted on attempted murder charges stemming from an incident earlier this month. Investigators traced Ryan to the Sioux Falls area.

The county’s Warrant/Fugitive Task Force witnessed Ryan getting into a vehicle near Hermosa and North 4th Ave and attempted to make a traffic stop. Sioux Falls Police and South Dakota Highway Patrol Units eventually followed the vehicle onto Interstate 229 where the car drove the wrong way for about a mile before crashing into a fence along N. Cleveland Ave. along the Interstate.

Fortunately no one was hurt during the chase.

Officers were able to capture two people at the scene of the crash, but one fled on foot. However, information from the public led them to a parking lot near 1309 N. Cleveland where the suspect was hiding in a pickup truck. The suspect eventually surrendered without incident.

Additional charges against those involved are pending and will be discussed at the Sioux Falls Police briefing on Thursday morning.
