For the second time in two months a young child falls from an apartment window in Sioux Falls. Fortunately, the injuries were not serious.

According to Sioux Falls Police the accident occurred at 1310 W. 6th Street. A mother left her children in the living room to watch television on Saturday while she was in another part of the apartment.

The 2-year-old boy apparently crawled onto a table that was underneath the window and either fell through or pushed his way through the screen. He fell an estimated 27 feet from the third floor.

Officer Sam Clemens said the boy was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries Saturday after falling from a third-floor apartment window. He was reported to be conscious when emergency personnel arrived.

His older siblings were all younger than seven years old charged with the task of keeping watch. “Apparently they weren’t watching very closely,” said Clemens. At this point, criminal charges will most likely not come into play.

This incident is somewhat different from the fall that occurred last month in a similar case at the Chasing Willow apartments. In that accident, a 2-year-old boy fell out of an apartment window which was closer to the floor, but opened too wide.
