"A 17-year-old girl ended up bringing a knife to school on Tuesday morning," according to Sioux Falls Police Department Public Information Officer Sam Clemens.

"I think it actually fell out of her pants. There was some staff around and saw that happening. She was charged with having a weapon on school grounds."

Clemens says Sioux Falls Public Schools have a zero tolerance policy.

"Most of the time it's kids showing off or forget they have a knife with them. Very rarely do any of these kids threaten somebody else with a knife. Most of the times they are just trying to show off. They tell somebody else about it and eventually word gets over to staff. We have a zero tolerance with having any type of weapon on school grounds. The kids are told that early in the school year. All of that information is passed out. They know if they bring a weapon to school they are going to get charged."
