Only one team was able to sustain their offensive firepower as the Reno Bighorns toppled the Sioux Falls Skyforce 134-115 on Wednesday night at the Sanford Pentagon.

At halftime, the score was 74-71 with both teams in the realm of 60 percent shooting from the floor. Reno (16-26) maintained that torrid pace after intermission with Sioux Falls (26-19) slipping to 36 percent in the second half.

Skyforce Coach Nevada Smith describes the measures taken to hold Reno down were disappointing.

“We struggled just to keep them in front of us in one-on-one defense and make them take tough shots. They just went by us and made plays in the paint. It wasn’t a great defensive effort.”

Forward Greg Whittington pinpoints the lack of communication defensively which allowed the outburst.

“It definitely broke down, (in the third quarter) but we were still in the game. We were down six at one point and could have regained the lead. When you have lapses like that you just have to refocus and come back Saturday.”

Reno got a pair of 30-point totals from guard Reggie Hearn and forward Will Davis plus 28 from Isaiah Cousins. The Skyforce top scorers were also tied at the top with Patrick Miller and Bubu Palo each with 17 points.

Both teams will next play on Saturday. Sioux Falls will host the Los Angeles D-Fenders with Reno at Oklahoma City.
