If you travel the roads around the Sioux Falls tri-state area chances are you have had a close call with hitting a deer during your commute.

Over the years I have personally hit 5 different deer with 4 different vehicles. I think they the deer may have been targeting me.

Luckily no one was hurt in the car / venison collisions, except for the deer of course. But again I think they may have been trying to settle some sort of vendetta.

Just after the first of the year Sioux Falls has been using sharpshooters to cull the inner city deer population. So far they have killed 45 deer. They goal was to cull 75 deer from the within the city.

They have been mainly targeting an area from I-229 and Rice Street corridor. If you travel these area much you have more than likely seen lots of deer close to or on the roadways.

Understandably they are beautiful animals but they also carry mange, fleas, mites, & other things that don't mix well with a city population.

Those tasked with culling the herd are trained by the Sioux Falls Police Department and Animal Control and the around 1,200 pounds of meat is all donated to Feeding South Dakota.

FYI: Those featured in the photo above are not the Sioux Falls Sharpshooters.  And although they have successfully downed lots of freezer meat, the word 'Sharp' is infrequently associated with their names.
