Sioux Falls Schools to Buy Chromebooks, iPads

SIOUX FALLS - The school district in South Dakota's largest city plans to spend more than $7 million over the next two years to update technology used by students.

Sioux Falls students from kindergarten through 12th grade will be getting either Google Chromebooks or Apple iPads. The school district will buy nearly 23,000 of the devices, and spend about $48,000 training teachers how to use them.

The Argus Leader newspaper reports that the upgrade is spurred by South Dakota's pending move to online standardized tests.

The School Board is expected to formally approve the purchases during the upcoming budget process.
