Sioux Falls Police Traffic Stop Ends With Arrests, Drug Charges

Sioux Falls police say a traffic stop on Monday afternoon ended with the arrests of two people.

"We had an officer that went to stop a vehicle at 12th Street and Duluth Avenue for running a stop sign. The car briefly stopped and as the officer was walking up [when] the SUV took off at a high rate of speed," explained Sioux Falls Police Department Public Information Officer Sam Clemens. "The officer didn't pursue the vehicle. We had several officers that came to the area looking for the vehicle. There were some people outside that pointed out the SUV and where it went. They were able to find it parked outside an apartment."

Clemens says officers checked out the apartment.

"They talked to the tenant briefly who allowed the officers to enter the apartment. They ended up finding two people. The man was arrested for aggravated eluding and having a suspended license. Inside the vehicle officers smelled marijuana. They talked to the tenant again. She allowed them to search her apartment. That's when officers found some scales, crack cocaine, marijuana, pills. Inside the car they found a 40 caliber handgun."

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 27-year-old Deondre Jackson of Sioux Falls. The passenger was 24-year-old Shanda Big Eagle of Lower Brule.
