The 20th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive event came to a close with a total collection of 982 donations. The blood drive competition between Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and the Sioux Falls Police Department ran from December 28 through January 8. In final tally, Sioux Falls Police “won” this year’s event with 495 donations. The Sioux Falls Fire Rescue collected 487 donations.

The Sioux Falls Police Department will present a $700 check to the Special Olympics of South Dakota. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will present a $300 check to the Children’s Home Society. The checks, compliments of Citibank and Farmer’s Insurance Rod Goeman Agency, will be presented at a luncheon hosted by Texas Roadhouse.

Each year this blood drive competition provides blood during a critical time of the year. The 982 donations helped 2,946 patients.
