Police arrested John Richard Senn in the 2800 block of South Theodore Avenue a short time later after Hansen's roommates were able to get a description of his car and a license plate.

Police say Hansen was stabbed by Senn, who she knew but was not romantically involved with, because he wanted her Oxycontin.

The 41 year old Senn is charged with alternate counts of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder and second-degree murder, along with counts of robbery and burglary.

Thursday afternoon, detectives found the pocket knife they believe was used to kill Hansen along with gloves, in a gas station dumpster at the corner of 41st & Sertoma in Sioux Falls, across the street from Roosevelt High School.

The items will be tested to see if the blood matches the crime scene. Police are also checking to see if there is any surveillance video from the gas station.

A memorial fund has been set up for Brenda Hansen's daughter at any Home Federal Bank.
