Sioux Falls Police are searching for a suspect in connection with a home break-in and fire.

"Monday evening we had a guy return home to his house on South Third Avenue," Police Spokesman Sam Clemens told us. "He found that somebody had kicked open the front door and he found fire inside. There were a couple of trash cans in the basement that had been set on fire. Several pets had died from the smoke. There was quite a bit of smoke damage done to the house."

Clemens says around five thousand dollars of damage was done to the house.

"Whoever set the fire we believe pulled open quite a few drawers in the home. But, as far as we can tell nothing was taken."

Clemens says Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to the fire.
