Darrin Smith, director of Sioux Falls Community Development, says there's a good chance that the city will break last year's record construction!

"We really thought there was very little chance that we would surpass last year's all time record.  We had been running just a little behind those numbers all year long.  But, now we are actually ahead of last year with one month to go.  So it looks like we may in fact break last year's all time record---just an incredible amount of almost 600 million dollars!"

Right now, Smith says the state's largest city is hot!

"Sioux Falls is such a vibrant community.  It's a safe community.  We routinely rank high for everything from educating our young people all the way to one of the top places in America to retire."

So far, there have been 117 million dollars in building permits for residential additions and remodeling.
