A man enraged about his vandalized tires tried to lay the blame on his neighbor. When trying to confront him he got a little in over his head.

Police officer Sam Clemens says it happened Saturday around 4:30 PM on S. 4th Avenue.

"Our suspect had his tires slashed. He walked over to (the neighbor's) house to confront who he believed had slashed his tires. He kicked open the front door. There were two guys inside. One of them lived there the other was just visiting."

It was more than a mistaken identity as Clemens says the friend was more than willing to take charge of the situation.

"The friend is the one that was attacked. He grabbed a frying pan and hit the suspect in the ribs then got a hammer and hit the suspect in the ribs several times. The guy that lives there wasn't involved in that fight."

Police say 46-year old Shawn Bergstedt of Sioux Falls was hospitalized for his injuries and faces Burglary and Simple Assault charges.

Currently there are no suspects for whoever slashed Bergstedt’s tires.
