A Sioux Falls man is facing several charges including rape for an alleged assault on a female relative.

Information Officer Sam Clemens says the juvenile told police she was sleeping Friday morning when she heard someone come into her apartment on North Lewis Avenue.

Clemens says the girl believed the person was her sister, who also lives there, so she went back to sleep. But he says she awoke a short time later to find a male relative on top of her.

Clemens says the man forced himself on her and left a short time later, but the girl believed he had been drinking, and that he could be violent when he was drinking, so she kept quiet until he was gone.

Then, Clemens says, she called her mother, who called police.

He says the suspect, 37-year-old Andrew Paul Stewart, was arrested at his home and charged with second-degree rape, aggravated incest and first-degree burglary.
