Sioux Falls Man, 38, Charged with Arson
Police in Sioux Falls say it began as a disagreement among three roommates, and it ended with one of them arrested on an arson charge.
Captain Greg VandeKamp says police and Sioux falls Fire Rescue units were called shortly after noon on Thursday to the 3200 block of North Cliff Avenue, where a fire had been started in a bathroom.
Vandekamp says police learned the roommates had been involved in a disagreement that prompted one of them go to into the bathroom to start a fire.
He says that prompted one of the others to hit the alleged arsonist in the head with a pan.
VandeKamp says the roommate had stuffed clothing into a vent and started the clothing on fire, but he says the only damage was in the vent and to a hamper in the bathroom.
He says David Whitten, 38, was treated for a head wound and arrested on a first-degree arson charge.
Whitten’s roommates, one male and one female, were not charged.
VandeKamp says alcohol was a factor in the roommates’ dispute.
