If you're a former high school or college football player who thinks you still have a little game left, you have a chance to showcase your talent in Sioux Falls this weekend and maybe win a roster spot on a new semi-pro team.

The Tri-State Buffalos, which will serve the South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota region, are holding tryouts Saturday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Sanford Power Field House.  A second tryout is scheduled for Hills, Minnesota next month.  The team will call Hills home when it debuts in the nine-man South Plains Football League along with nine other teams from Minnesota and Iowa. The season starts in April.

The team is owned by Cody Scholten, a former linebacker for the Sioux Falls Stallions, an 11-man semiprofessional team that still competes in the Midwest Football Alliance. Ken McCuen is the Buffalos head coach.  He was the defensive coordinator for the Stallions last season and still coaches defensive backs at Brandon Valley High School. Joining McCuen on the staff thus far is offensive coordinator Charles McNamara, who held the same position for the Stallions last year, Klaus Deuschle, who will be an offensive assistant, and Brad Bentley, who will be a defensive assistant. McCuen will be in charge of the defense as well.
