A 58-year-old woman has life-threatening injuries after she was a victim of a Monday morning hit-and-run accident near Sanford Hospital Sioux Falls.

According to the Argus Leader:

Lt. Galen Smidt said two women were crossing Grange Avenue on their way to work at Sanford when one of them was hit by a vehicle. The driver made no attempt to stop after hitting the woman, Smidt said.

The accident was reported at 7:20 a.m. near 21st Street, according to Metro Communications. Initial reports indicated the female victim was unconscious and not breathing. She was transferred by ambulance soon after 7:30 a.m., and police said she was in surgery at 8:15 a.m.  An alert was issued for police to look for a small to mid-sized silver, light blue or gray car with possible damage to its passenger side or windshield. It was seen speeding from the area.
