The history of Sioux Falls has been intriguing to me since I moved into my first apartment downtown.  A white brick apartment on Duluth Avenue was one of the first places I lived on my own, and when a neighbor told me the building had been the original Cataract Hotel, I went to the library to investigate.

Armed with Sioux Falls historical books, I found an original Cataract Hotel picture, which confirmed I was actually living in what was the hotel.  I then found a bench on Phillips Avenue, where I compared the historical pictures from the early 1900's and compared them to what was still standing present day.

To this day I enjoy looking at the old Downtown Sioux Falls pictures and try to learn what life was like back then.

You may drive or walk by areas of Sioux Falls every day without giving it much thought. However, when you hear the history of those places you may never see the streets, homes, and buildings the same way again.
