Sioux Falls High School Student Raises $10K For Kids

I met Washington High School senior Ian Rinken when he was in 8th grade. I interviewed Ian and his mom Jan at the Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls. Ian didn’t remember a lot about his cancer he said. He was just three years old when he was diagnosed. He spent the next 36 months getting treatment and has been cancer free since he was 6.

Ian also spent several of the past summer’s at Camp Bring It On in Madison, SD. It’s a camp for kids with cancer. It gave him a community of other kids that had gone through the same thing he had. He was also able to talk to some of the younger kids who were still going through their treatments and be a bit of a big brother to them. Showing that they could beat cancer and be a kid again.

On Sunday October 14th, Rinken hosted his own golf tournament to benefit Cure Kids Cancer, Camp Bring It On and Make A Wish of South Dakota, as he was a ‘Wish Kid’ way back when as well. Rinken has always wanted to do whatever he could to help kids fighting cancer. Sunday at Willow Run, Rinken’s Rounds Against Cancer raised over $10,000 for these incredible charities!

Sunday evening, he posted this on Facebook “Raised over 10000 dollars in Rinken’s Rounds Against Cancer today for Make A Wish, Cure Kids Cancer, and Camp Bring It On. This money will be used so kids with cancer can do things that a normal kid would do. Like go on a vacation or go to a camp and goof off for a week. I don’t think any of you realize how much you can make a difference just by playing in a golf tournament or donating 25 dollars to a charity. Every dollar matters to the charity and the kids who are being granted these wishes. I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in the tournament or anyone that donated money you all make such a big difference! Thank you for the support everyone and hopefully we will have an even better tournament next year!”

Thank YOU Ian for doing what you do and for continuing to be an ambassador for these causes and for being one of Crash’s Crew. You absolutely rock.
