A world wide effort will be marked in Sioux Falls on Sunday. Stories, songs and solace will be shared for a group that needs to see the light.

The group Compassionate Friends is behind the event on Sunday night. They support families who are grieving the death of a child.

Kirk Lee says you lose part of your future when you lose a child. “You’re never going to get to see your child walk down the aisle if they are younger than that age or graduate. It is way more intense than any other kind of grief that you can imagine.

Lee’s daughter died in a car accident three years ago and gained strength through others who shared his pain. “The one big thing that you learn is that you are not alone. I remember very well the feeling that, ‘Life is over because I lost my daughter. I’m the only one who’s going to suffer like this.’ You find out that you’re not.”

Specialized counseling has been especially helpful to Lee and his family to help in the recovery process. “It’s one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.”

Other similar Candlelighting events will take place on a global scale. Locally this event arrives Sunday December 13 at Westminster Presbyterian Church 3801 E. 26th St. starting at 6:15 PM with the candle to be lit at 7:00 PM.
