Let's hope you're never on the receiving end of one of these, but should it happen, take comfort in knowing Sioux Falls now has the latest in technology.

The city of Sioux Falls recently purchased 15 new state of the art cardiac monitor defibrillators that will be used by Fire Rescue crews to help patients having cardiac issues.

The new Physio Control LifePak units offer a number of upgrades over the previous generation of defib units that were being used. One of the updates is carbon monoxide monitoring.

Another plus about the new defibrillators, they possess the same technology used by Paramedics Plus, the city's current ambulance service. By using the same technology, the transition process between both first responding medical service providers can be significantly improved.

All of the city's Fire Rescue first responders are trained as emergency medical technicians, and according to Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras that is unique for a department as big as the one found in Sioux Falls.
