Sioux Falls Crime Available by Website, Smartphone
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Listening to police scanners is so 2012. Nowadays, there's an app for that.
South Dakota's largest city is joining the ranks of municipalities nationwide that map out crime incidents for people to track by computer or iPhone. Sioux Falls police say the service will let residents see neighborhoods' crime data in close to real time.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says the data is available through CrimeReports.com, which tracks crime incidents in cities throughout the United States and Canada.
Clemens says this program updates an older one in the city that wasn't as user friendly and didn't allow users to filter the incidents by type - such as vandalism or assault. The data also is linked to the state's sex-offender registry.
