Two major traffic arteries in Sioux Falls will be curtailed during the construction season of 2013. Reconstruction of the intersection of 57th and Western and the widening of the street south of the junction will be a show stopper for a good portion of the summer.

All four directions of street traffic are narrowed to one lane through. Here is the look going westbound. The lanes shift to the left for the old concrete removed.

Going north everything shifts to the area towards the Gas Stop as the crew looks to widen the west side of the street.

Going south of 57th Street the evidence shows cones all the way to Ralph Rogers Road which is where the widening will tail off…for now. The plan is to extend 4-lane traffic probably all the way to 273rd street.

If you are eastbound, hug the right lane to squeeze through.

On the north side, here’s incentive to keep left.

Even at non-peak traffic times this will be a traffic snarl. Traffic backs up past the bridge over I-229 at 10 a.m.

Pedestrians beware! Stay out of the construction area with this temporary walking path.

This project will not be complete by the time Jazzfest rolls around in July. Keep that in mind if you plan to be a part of the festivities.
