The Sioux Falls Canaries have a new sherif in town, and one that comes with a successful resume in independent baseball.

Chris Paterson has won championships in the United League with Rio Grand Valley in 2014, and a Pecos League Championship in 2011 with an expansion franchise. He was also a college pitcher for North Dakota State.

Tom Garrity, CEO of the Sioux Falls Canaries, says in a statement that Paterson can bring a winning tradition back to town.

"After going through an extensive search, Chris stood out amongst all the other finalists as someone who is a great leader and has a great eye for talent. We are confident in his ability to find top talent and make the Canaries a contender once again.”

The Canaries open the season on May 21st in Sioux City. The birdcage will open on May 24th as the Birds face the Explorers to finish of the first series of the year. For more information on Chris Paterson, click here.
