Sioux Falls City officials announced a third record-breaking year of construction values. The construction valuation for building permits issued by Building Services in 2015 reached $619,862,799 million.

Last year’s record (2014) was $619.5 million, and the previous record set in 2013 was $588.2 million.

“This city and, yes, this Mayor are incredibly confident, but back-to-back-to-back building permit records is something even I didn’t expect,” says Mayor Mike Huether. “Sioux Falls is one rocking place. Even with all of this excitement, the city is able to stay one step ahead of this growth and is prepared for more.”

Last year’s record was driven in part by a record number of reshingling permits. This year, no one type of construction activity is driving building in Sioux Falls.

“Whether it’s industrial, retail, health care, education, housing, remodeling, or other types of investment, building is taking place in every corner of Sioux Falls,” says Mike Cooper, Director of Planning and Building Services. “Our economy is extremely strong and also balanced, and there really is no end in sight to our city’s progress.”
