Sioux Falls Up & Coming (SFU&C) members are answering the President Barack Obama’s call to action and participating in the National Day of Service on Saturday, January 19 as the kick-off to the 57th Presidential Inauguration. Members will be collecting feminine product donations for The Banquet, joining hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country in volunteer service.

Continuing a tradition the First Family began four years ago, Inauguration weekend will begin with a National Day of Service that honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. SFU&C has planned a day of service that will leverage the strength of local citizens to help tackle local problems and advance Dr. King’s dream of opportunity for all.

SFU&C’s beneficiary was inspired by the story of alumni member and community advocate, Katrina Lehr-McKinney, who saw a woman come into The Banquet with her husband and baby. That particular day, The Banquet staff was giving out the limited number of feminine products they had on hand, and the woman was in desperate need, as she was wearing their baby’s last diaper to get by. Feminine products are a specific need, and something SFU&C would like to bring to the attention of the public by way of this service drive.

SFU&C member businesses will be accepting maxi pad and tampon donations during regular business hours at the following locations leading up to the January 19 Day of Service:

City of Sioux Falls Health Department - 521 N Main Avenue, Ste. 100
Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. - 230 S Phillips Avenue, Ste. 102
Fresh Produce – 400 N Main Avenue, Ste. 100
L. Dezign - 400 N Main Avenue, Ste. 104 (SE Corner of the Gourley Building, First Floor)

SFU&C will then host a drop-off event on Saturday, January 19 from 2 to 4pm. Contact brienne@sfupandcoming.com for more information on the event.
