PINE RIDGE - South Dakota State University is partnering with a school on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to establish a mentoring program for students.

SDSU and Red Cloud Indian School recently announced a partnership between the two institutions. School officials say the mentorship program will help increase the number of Red Cloud students choosing to attend SDSU and offer a network of advocates to support Red Cloud graduates throughout their college career.

The program is similar to a partnership between Red Cloud and Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., which pairs Red Cloud juniors with Creighton faculty mentors.

SDSU President David Chicoine and Red Cloud Superintendent Ted Hamilton signed the agreement establishing the partnership during a ceremony last week on Red Cloud's campus on the Pine Ridge reservation.
